Frequently Asked Questions, Comments and ConcernsWhy should we have a suicide prevention program or training? We don't have a problem, and we don't want to create one. Talking about suicide does not cause suicide. Undoubtedly, adolescents and adults are already aware of suicide. Likely, troubled adolescents or adults have considered suicide an option. It is essential that we talk to them about it to let them know they are not alone in their thoughts. They must understand that their feelings are common, that they’re not alone and that it’s okay to ask for help. We don't want to glorify suicide by talking about it. Prevention does not equal glorification. Just as the DARE program talks about the causes, effects and consequences of using drugs in order to prevent drug use, suicide awareness and education programs help prevent suicide by creating awareness of the problem and teaching the warning signs of suicide and how to ask for help. Who should be trained in a suicide prevention program? Anyone who interacts with children, adolescents or adults will benefit from training.. This includes school or university staff members, employers and employees in any settings, as well as members of the community at large. What does suicide prevention training and education include?
