Video Conferencing Microscope

The Foundation purchased a video conferencing microscope for the Deaconess Laboratory, allowing Deaconess to remain at the forefront of cancer expertise and technology. This equipment assists physicians at weekly tumor conference meetings, a collaboration of medical professionals who analyze patient cancer cells and develop optimal treatment plans for individual patients.

Prior to the purchase of this equipment, cells were photographed, reproduced on slides, and then projected on a screen. The video conferencing microscope enables physicians to see exactly what they would normally see through a microscope. This allows a clearer view of cells, real-time manipulation and an opportunity to observe changes in the cells.

Dr. Henry Bockelman, Medical Director of Pathology, noted that the equipment is an invaluable addition to the weekly tumor conferences and an excellent educational tool for the medical staff.
